Art and Self-Creation: The Roots of Creativity and Innovation offers a practical framework for understanding how our own creativity shapes who we are and who we can become. Drawing from her background in Industrial Systems Engineering, Expressive Arts Therapy, and Existential Philosophy, Dr. Lorena Fernandez invites listeners to see themselves as a Human Complex Adaptive System, deeply embedded in an ever-changing world. As we navigate life’s inevitable external disruptions, our responses are shaped by a dynamic internal network of interdependent forces that can be positively influenced by our own creative self-expression. This internal network includes the nothingness described my Sartre, as well as our relationships to other people, the materials and processes of the world, our capacity for emotional regulation, our identities, and our creative imagination. In the face of ambiguity, anxiety, and transformation, two essential questions emerge: What is happening here, and who will I be in this situation?

This audiobook explores how artistic self-expression can serve as both a grounding and generative practice, lifting the fog of emotional turmoil and guiding us toward meaningful, identity-shaping insight and the ability to take positive action.

Whether you're an artist, a therapist, a seeker, or someone undergoing life changes such as relocation, career change, divorce, becoming a parent, or something else, this audiobook offers a poetic and practical pathway to empowerment, self-understanding, creativity, and positive innovation.

At its heart, How To Exist, An Impractical Guide / Cómo Existir, Guía Impráctica

Is a bilingual book of poetry and love. Love in its many forms: compassionate, erotic, friendly, and above all, love of self.

Written and translated by Lorena B. Fernandez, the poems explore a multifaceted identity: poet, artist, woman, mother, daughter, therapist, Latina. It is through her Latin American lens that the book finds its distinctive voice.

Poetry’s intimacy with language makes translation a delicate art. Fernandez embraces this challenge, presenting each poem in both English and Spanish, not prioritizing one over the other, but embodying both, fluidly, fearlessly.

Her feminism, subtle yet powerful, runs throughout, from critiques of conditioned submission to fierce declarations of inner rebellion. Yet, amid this intensity, tenderness blooms: “love is being born… surrounded by softness. The book invites readers on a poetic journey, a search for meaning not through answers, but through art, poetry, presence, and embodied experience. Fernandez doesn’t offer a map, but she walks beside us, accompanying us with words, images, and soul.
